Longreach held their last sale for the year with increased numbers on previous weeks; yarding 2500 dry cattle and 200 Cows & calves. Blackall yarded 740 of mainly fat cows and stores.

With good storm rain in large areas of Queensland and New South Wales the store market was stronger on the lighter types, with short supply of good fat cattle meatworks rates stayed firm to slightly dearer. A very short supply of Bullocks in Longreach topped at 161.2c/kg, with good heavy Bullocks over 600kg of Andy Pervis “Waverley” Augathella selling to a top of 166c/kg at Blackall. Heavy Cows sold firm with Andy Pervis selling good Santa Cows at Blackall to a high of 143 c/kg. Rob Thallon sold Santa Cows to 137c/kg. Best heavy Cows at Longreach made 148c/kg. A very tidy line of Brahman and Charbray Cows sold on behalf of the Kersh Family “Bora” Richmond topped at 126.2c/kg to average 475kg. Avery Agriculture sold 540kg Shorthorn Cows to 137.2c.kg. Store rates in Longreach and Blackall both got to heights not seen for a few months with lights Steers at Longreach from B D Fegan “Kellosheil” Julia Creek topped at 202.2c/kg, light Charbray Steers at Blackall sold to 200c/kg. Store Heifer rates also increased with Knudsen’s “Elton Downs” Stamford selling Brahmans Heifers to 160.2c/kg. A Good line of Cows and Calves at Longreach this week attracted strong competition from local and away buyers selling to a top of $622.50 per unit. Rob Thallon Blackall sold young Santa Cows and Calves to  $ 650 per unit.
